Our Seniors met for their final STRIVE program meeting of the year! STRIVE is an informational and scholarship program offered through a partnership with NRHS and the Rotary Club of New Richmond. Due to the generous support of the Rotary Club, 8 students were awarded $6,500 in scholarships based on academic improvement and essay submissions. Congratulations to all our winners!

NRHS Powerlifting Historic State Championship Sweep!

For the first time in school history, our Tigers have swept the competition, capturing the Girls Team State Championship, the Boys Team State Championship, and the Combined Boys/Girls Team State Championship!

Exciting news from the NRHS Ag Room:

Breanna and Eli filled out scholarship applications for the FFA Washington Leadership Conference (WLC). Eli was selected as a recipient and will attend this premier summer gathering in D.C. for agricultural student leaders. WLC inspires FFA members to become changemakers in their schools and communities. Each day of the conference focuses on a different principle taught through the context of our nation's capital. These principles include exploration, encouragement, advocacy, and service. At the end of our week there, he will leave with a Living to Serve Plan he can implement back here!

Agriscience Instructor Rachel Sauvola hasn't taken students to D.C. in more than 20 years!

Eli also just completed his State FFA Degree. This is the top degree you can earn at the state level and is usually accomplished senior year or after you graduate from high school. Eli set the goal to get it his junior year and worked very hard on the 17-page application highlighting his Supervised Agricultural Experience project details, financials, community service, skills and competencies learned, and a whole lot more. Ultimately, he has taken 360 hours of Agriscience courses, worked more than 600 hours, and earned/productively invested $2000 in his SAE projects.

There have only been a handful of other NR students who have earned this degree when they were a junior. He will be awarded this honor at the Wisconsin State FFA Convention in June. As a point of reference, our last recipient was Rose, who is presently finishing her student teaching for Agricultural Education in Clear Lake.

The NRHS Fishin' Tigers, founded in 2014, are part of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association (WIFA), a statewide nonprofit organization with approximately 155 high school teams. Each year, about 40 students sign up at the high school club fair, with around 25 participating in competitions. The team competes in both open water and ice fishing events across Wisconsin, starting the ice season by attending the St. Paul Ice Fishing Show to connect with industry leaders and learn from professionals. Safety is a priority, with an ice safety seminar at the first meeting and a new policy requiring flotation suits, sponsored by Striker Brands of Hudson. Competitions take place on Saturdays in January and early February, following a Catch-Photo-Release format for species like Northern Pike, Bass, and Panfish. The State Championship is held annually at rotating locations, with this year's event in La Crosse, where the team placed 11th out of 80 schools, catching 36 registered fish. The team has a history of strong performances, including a 2nd-place finish in 2016 and six top-12 finishes overall.

 NRMS hosted its annual school-wide Spelling Bee! 

Thirty students representing grades 6, 7, and 8, participated in the Spelling Bee. After 2 hours of tough competition, our top 3 finishers were James in 3rd Place, Nia in 2nd Place, and Johanna as the School Champion. Johanna will represent NRMS in Turtle Lake at the Regional Spelling Bee on February 19. Congratulations to all participants!

We are excited to announce that after months of thoughtful planning and collaboration with many dedicated individuals around the district, the construction phase of our facilities referendum is set to begin in the summer of 2025. Countless staff members, community members, and experts contributed to designing a plan that will greatly enhance our district’s learning environments. As we move forward, we will continue to keep you informed by providing updates on our district website, ensuring that you stay connected to the progress every step of the way.

In order to prioritize student learning and include additional summer construction days, the School District of New Richmond has developed a 2-year school calendar to help staff and families plan ahead for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years. This 2-year school calendar was approved by the SDNR Board of Education on Monday, November 18, 2024.

By sharing the calendars well in advance, we hope to provide ample time for everyone to make any necessary arrangements. These calendars are now available on our district website, and I encourage you to review them as there are adjustments compared to previous years.

Principal for a Day - Briley!

Starr Elementary was in great hands as Briley stepped into the role of Principal for a Day — and he did it like a true star! From morning announcements to classroom rounds, Briley led with confidence, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to making Starr Famous for Learning.

He handed out Tiger Tickets, evaluated teachers like a pro, treated students to Jolly Ranchers, and even enjoyed a McDonald’s lunch with our leadership team. All day long, he encouraged high levels of learning and fun, bringing energy and joy to every corner of the building. 

Wearing his favorite sports gear, Briley reminded us that leadership comes in all sizes—and that when students lead, incredible things happen. 

We are so proud of Principal Briley and grateful for the way he helped Starr shine even brighter!

The 5th Graders who participated in the recent Math Masters competition did a wonderful job! #NRTigers

We had 5 teams represent New Richmond. There were 17 teams in the competition.

The team from Hillside and PaperJack of Andrew, Bentley, Evan, and Garrett placed 13th!

The team from Hillside of Sylvia, Caleb, Finley, Henry, and Oliver, placed 11th!

The team from Hillside of Anna, Adah, Cade, Ryder, and Christian placed 7th!

The team from Starr and PaperJack of Maria, Ben, Louie, and Ginger placed 3rd!

And winning the competition, earning 1st place, was the team from PaperJack of Wilder, Louie, Chace, Bentley, and Cody!

Our students did great in the individual competitions as well. Over 80 students competed, and they awarded ribbons and medals to the top 10.

In the Fact Drill round, Cade from Hillside and Louie from Starr tied for 8th place, and Louie from PaperJack earned 2nd place!

In the individual round, Henry from Hillside placed 10th, Cody from PaperJack placed 8th, Louie from Starr placed 4th, and Louie from PaperJack placed 3rd!

Please congratulate these students on their hard work and a job well done!

In April, Paperjack 4th graders enjoyed learning about electrical safety presented by linemen, including a former NRHS graduate, from New Richmond Utilities. After that, they got to generate electricity using "pedal power" by riding a bike to spin a magnet.

Students also learned about different sources of energy. Thank you, New Richmond Utilities, for bringing community education into our classrooms!

Congratulations to Starr Elementary Art Teacher, Laura Rahn, on receiving Artsonia's annual Art Education Leadership Award!

The Art Education Leadership Award honors pioneers in the art education community who continually inspire their peers through their online school gallery on Artsonia. Ms. Rahn has demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation within the art education community and we are so proud of her!

Congratulations on a job well done, Grace! Grace just wrapped up a striking large-scale mixed-media piece featuring a vibrant fish - and the result is absolutely stunning! From her meticulous colored pencil work to the seamless blending and expressive watercolor and acrylic washes, every detail reflects her creativity and dedication. Way to go, Grace!

At the end of March, a group of 5th-grade students from the elementary schools attended the Shell Lake Elementary Choral Festival.

The students spent the day learning several songs with a fantastic director and other elementary students from the area. They ended the day with an excellent concert.

Our School Nutrition Department hosted contracted researchers from the United States Department of Agriculture - School Food Preparation Study. The goal of the study is to learn more about how school nutrition programs are cooking food from scratch and utilizing fresh food in school meals. Our district was one of 36 in the entire U.S. selected for this research, and one of only 12 who had in-person visits! We love sharing the amazing work that our School Nutrition Professionals do every school day!

Our Paperjack Tiger Pride Leaders worked with Lily Tesar and Lianette Rivera, students at the High School in the Video Production class, to make this informational video about the role of the Tiger Pride Leaders at Paperjack Elementary. We thank Lily and Lianette for their help, and we thank our Tiger Pride Leaders for their daily work making Paperjack a safe and welcoming place!

Our dedicated NRMS Future City students took on a tough challenge! They spent 4 months researching, designing, and building a city of the future to participate in the 25th Future City Competition held in MN on January 18.

These NRMS 6th Graders challenged themselves by participating in our "Favorite Book Parade". Each student created a float that represented their favorite book and participated in a quick route through the NRMS hallways. All floats were powered by Spheros!
